Code Te Ching - Verse 34

Defined process is inflexible
    Stifles results.
Empirical process is flexible
    Emergent results.

Too many colors blind the eye.
Too many noises deafen the ear.
Too many flavors deaden the palate.
Too many variables destroy the definition.

Empirical process is indefinable.

So Lao Tzu said:
Look – you won’t see it.
Listen – you won’t hear it.
Use it – you will never use it up.
